PARALLAX — Reading Club

We all have books that have left a mark on us. But no book is read the same way twice — not even by the same person!

Parallax, our new reading club, is based on this concept: reading is a change of perspective. As in the scientific definition, parallax corresponds to the apparent change in the position of an object caused by a change in the observer’s point of view — what a text reveals when the reader changes.

On the last Monday of each month, Parallax invites artists to share their favourite book: what they loved, what bothered them, what they didn’t understand. There will be well-known books, revisited books and other unexpected ones that open up unforeseen paths.

A public gathering for listening, conversation and discovery. Without excessive reverence and without ‘anxiety of influence’. Paralaxe is a cycle open to the public, full of curiosity, sharing and many secrets thrown in.

After an exceptional Parallax #1 outside the venue, at Livraria Snob, where Miguel Bonneville presented his book “A importância de ser” on 31 January, this reading club will continue at Rua das Gaivotas 6 with different formats and purposes: sometimes launching upcoming works, sometimes paying tribute to older texts. Always in multiple times.

On 20 February, we welcome Paulo Brás and André e. Teodósio for the launch of the new book from the publisher ed. ______ (Sistema Solar, Teatro Praga): “O rapaz que dançava na feira: Antologia poética” (The boy who danced at the fair: Poetic anthology) by Manuel Mengo.
